At the beginning of the season, all conferences are equal.


And there's no objective way to argue otherwise without head to head matchups. This is why OOC scheduling of P5 vs. P5 is so important.

Right now, arguing about which conference is better is silly and anecdotal. It'a a product of marketing and only favors the conferences that have more money to spend on it.
