The biggest gain for ESPN would be professional sports.

Most of the home games for NBA, NHL, and MLB are broadcast on the Regional Sports Networks. Raycom has sold ACC football and basketball games to these networks as well through the summer of 2019, but after that they will go to the ACC Network. Or if ESPN now owns them, ESPN could broadcast on them along with ACC Network Extra. If 5 ACC games are going on not all can be on the ACC Network.

The Fox Regional Sports Networks include the local broadcasts of NY Yankees, Brooklyn Nets, Cleveland Indians, Milwaukee Brewers, Milwaukee Bucks, LA Clippers, LA Angels, LA Kings, Anaheim Ducks, Memphis Grizzlies, Nashville Predators, Orlando Magic, Miami Heat, Tampa Bay Rays, Tampa Bay Lightning, Dallas Mavericks, Dallas Stars, San Antonio Spurs, Texas Rangers, Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Hornets, Carolina Hurricanes,Oklahoma City Thunder, San Diego Padres, Cleveland Cavaliers, Cincinnati Reds, Minnesota Twins, Minnesota Wild, Minnesota Timberwolves, New Orleans Pelicans, St Louis Cardinals, St Louis Blues, Kansas City Royals, Miami Marlins, Florida Panthers, Detroit Pistons, Detroit Red Wings, Detroit Tigers, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Arizona Coyotes. That would be considerable inventory for ESPN to add.

Comcast Sports Networks has many Regional Sports Networks of their own. They just recently changed the name to NBC Sports Networks. They have the Washington DC teams, Baltimore and Philly plus others. Comcast is looking at buying this stuff too.

The other thing Disney wants is the portfolio of movies and TV shows owned by 20th Century Fox. Disney has plans for a Netflix type site. Adding that inventory to Disney's increases content. Comcast owns Universal. So they have some interest in that too.
