Helps -- raises the profile of ACC.

Clemson might raid Virginia for 1-2 top recruits -- but overall, I'm more worried about Big Ten (Maryland, Penn State), and sometimes the SEC (Bama, Auburn, UGA, Florida).

What can the Big Ten & SEC offer? The chance to play national/big-time games, the chance to play for (or against) National Champions. Compared to the ACC, where kids might think of Duke, Wake, BC, Pitt, etc.

More Champs for the ACC (even if those Champs are Clemson/FSU Atlantic Division) = more credibility for VT recruiting
