That's a big reason Notre Dame doesn't have to join a conference...


for football. The ACC helps Notre Dame by providing 3-5 ACC games per year (at least 2 of those games will help your SOS). You have USC, Stanford, and some other P-5 teams on your schedule. You have your own football TV contract with NBC. All Notre Dame has to do is to remain relevant and maintain their national fan base and they likely get in the 4 team playoffs if ranked in the top 5 or 6 at the end of the regular season. ESPN knows Notre Dame will attract more viewers than some other schools with similar records. Picking Alabama over Ohio State or Wisconsin brings in more viewers. ESPN has to love the Clemson-Alabama rematch. Clemson destroyed tOSU last season.
