Storm Open Summary

Quick summary of the Storm Open, some of which appeared already in posts below in live time. There was a mix of talent, with D1s like Tech, AU (most of their starters), Michigan State, Ohio U, Kent State, Clarion, about 5 guys from Ohio State and a couple from Maryland, plus lots of D2 schools.

Mehki Lewis and Joh Borst took first place at 165 and 197 respectively. Cody Hughes took 2d at 174. Cole Manley placed 3d at 133 and Stan Smeltzer was 3d at 184. Also worth noting, Ryan Blees tore apart his first two opponents, and was doing the same to his third, but the kid locked a cradle when Blees was in on an attack, and Blees lost. He would beat that guy 99 times out of 100, but he made a momentary mistake and paid. (Funny moment before that match, when the Wheeling wrestler asked his teammates what he should watch for with Blees, a teammate said, “watch for the tech fall.”) Under the rules of this tournament, only semi-final losers can compete for third. So Ryan Blees could only compete for 5th at that point.

Here are the results for all Tech wrestlers:

125 – Ryan Moore – 2 wins, 2 losses – 6th place
133 – Cole Manley – 3 and 1 – 3d place
141 – Caden Darber – 2 and 2
149 – Brendan Ryan – 3 and 2 - 7th or 8th place (7/8 matches were not conducted due to time)
157 – Ryan Blees – 4 and 1 – 5th place
157 - Ronny Ghaida – 1 and 2
165 - Mekhi Lewis – 5 and 0 – 1st place
174 – Cody Hughes – 3 and 1 – 2d place
184 – Stan Smeltzer – 3 and 1 – 3d place
197 John Borst – 4 and 0 – 1st place

Apologies in advance if there are any mistakes.
