No one donates specifically for the deduction...well hopefully no one does...there does seem to be a common misconception that donations are essentially free "because writeoff"

The deduction does help justify the amount though...although I'm not sure how many really take it into consideration...there was a subscriber thread a few days ago where most folks, including me, indicated that taking away the deduction would have no effect on giving
