Well, time to adjust expectations downward yet again

With the latest injuries, I think it’s very possible we split the last two games. 8-4 will still get us to a good bowl game. And here’s how I define a good bowl game by the standards of the ACC bowl line up: You have the playoffs, then the rest of the New Year’s Six. Obviously those are out of the question. Then you have one, possible two bowls in Orlando. Those are still possible at 9-3. Then you get to four bowls which in theory have equal pull, but in reality will bend to the will of the conference to get the best possible matchups. The clear delineation is the Taxslayer/Music City and Belk Bowls on one side, and the Pinstripe and Sun Bowls on the other. The Taxslayer took an ACC team last year, so they’ll probably take a B10 opponent this year, So the Music City gets an ACC team to match up against an SEC team. The Belk Bowl probably won’t take us since we went last year. So 8-4 will likely put us in the Music City. The Pinstripe and Sun are undesirable because they are cold and remote, respectively, and also because they are low on the totem pole with the PAC12 and B10 bowl lineups. Those conferences aren’t very deep this year either, so whatever ACC team ends up there will likely play a 6-6 /7-5 Indiana, Minnesota, Utah, or Arizona (although RR vs CJF would be an interesting matchup). 7–5 will likely put us in one of those bowls, or worse.
