Ww2 peeps: why was the potential of the cv ignored in favor of battleships?

I ask this question here a while back and I found my answer on YouTube. Aircraft technology was pretty bad up until the late 30s. It's not that navies didn't see the potential of the aircraft carrier it's just the technology wasn't there yet. Battleships were tried-and-true
