10-4; all good. there is a huge challenge in governing

the broad variety of educational institutions comprising the NCAA. Stanford and KSU are night and day regarding academic rigor.

I have no illusion that athletes are just like every other student. The demands on their time and the level of visibility in the revenue sports make their lives completely different. Some academic majors simply aren't realistically available to them and everyone pads their GPA with certain electives.

What bothers me about the UNC situation is that they basically set up a fraudulent academic situation counter to the mission of the organization to which they belong.

I'm a consultant and some of the problems I help rectify are the result of my clients trying to take on way more than they should in terms of accountability and responsibility. They want to accomplish X, which is in their wheelhouse, so they wind up trying to be experts on Y, where they have no expertise, in order to get X. Then they get sideways with the people who are in fact experts on Y.

If I'm the NCAA and UNC says 'yeah we did all that but it's beyond the scope of your authority', my response to UNC is, "Why should we continue to have you as one of our members? You are jeopardizing our tax exempt status and creating problems for everyone else. Why shouldn't we simply part ways and void your records? Clearly your actions, which you acknowledge, are counter to the mission of the organization. How would you suggest that you make the organization and its other members whole?"

Play the peer pressure card and let UNC take the responsibility for making it right.
