accrediting authority or other authority finds a violation, i.e., that classes were fake or otherwise did not meet an accredited standard, that athletes had an advantage...any advantage...that other students did not, that grades were changed to maintain eligibility, that athletic department personnel had direct contact with academic personnel in discussions with grades, that the NCAA has the authority punish its member institution.

The Core Purpose of the NCAA is to "govern competition in a fair, safe, equitable and sportsmanlike manner, and to integrate intercollegiate athletics into higher education so that the educational experience of the student-athlete is paramount.

The notion that it can achieve those core purposes when it lacks jurisdiction in any of the above matters is laughable.
