This makes no sense to me:


"And the flow of the game would be adversely affected by the ref having to coordinate regularly with a clock operator".

How hard is it for the ref to put his hand up (or use some other signal) to signify stoppage, and then another hand gesture to signify the start. Many sports do this seamlessly.
