I agree playing the #2 team is a big deal.

However, I do think there is a perceptual difference between a team being the #2 team multiple times throughout history and a team being the #2 team for 1 or 2 times throughout history. That perceptual difference can often equate to an emotional difference among the fans or how the media does its coverage leading up to the game.

If VT was playing the #2 team, then would the media coverage leading up to the game be the same if the opponent was BC, Duke, or Wake vs. the opponent was Clemson, FSU, (maybe) L'ville, Miami, Notre Dame, or any other blue blood out there? Would fans show the same level of excitement regardless of opponent or would it depend on the name of the opponent?
