MESSAGE TO ANY VT LEADERSHIP THAT WILL LISTEN OR READ- DON'T KILL OUR LOGO!

VT MARKETING SAYS THEY WON'T CHANGE THE FOOTBALL VT. AFTER FOGHORN LEGHORN, HOW LONG WILL THAT LAST? ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

What little I can do in life to affect VT, I will not let this die. I know it has already been discussed on the boards, but this is that giant smashed corner of your car left by some ahole in the grocery store parking lot that is too costly to fix out of pocket and would jack up your insurance rates if they paid for it.

In their infinite PC wisdom, VT's marketing hires have weakened and confused the VT brand with literal crap. Who in the world thinks that little twist somehow makes the VT brand better??? This is someone's failed attempt at trying to justify their relevance as a VT employee or contractor. That is it. And that is DISGUSTING.

VT HAS A 50 YEAR HISTORY OF MAKING HORRIBLE BRANDING AND LICENSING DECISIONS. I have literally spent my adult life checking stores around the US for VT products- and the lack of availability. Was that because of lesser name recognition? It has been because VT has repeatedly made poor decisions in licensing deals which, since at least the 80s, have not matched the policies and procedures of most national universities, making it much more costly for bigger brands- and ultimate to not sell more, and better looking, VT clothing and merchandise.

And now this.

I have read the VT PR about this new logo development:

I DO NOT SEE INFO ANYWHERE WHY THEY WEAKENED THE EXISTING LOGO. Where is the explanation of what the thinner lines and that twist in the letters mean? The only physical comment the PR makes is that it "mirrors" the current logo. Yes. In one of those distorted clown mirrors you find in a haunted house. Hey, it is almost time for Halloween.

If they are going to modify the logo, please explain what their result of months of work- AND FEEDBACK REVIEW- actually means. You or I can splatter jello pudding on a wall and Bill Cosby will call that art. It doesn't mean its art- it means that an actor got paid to sell you jello pudding because he was entertaining at one point. How does the weakened, twisted, mirrored design reflect anything that is more inclusive? The first thing I think of is that VT is saying previously "lesser included"? groups are twisted?? That's not good messaging in my opinion.

What irks me even more is that these civilian marketing people even provided copy for that article that used the image and history of the VTCC to try and sell this crap. DO NOT INSULT ME. Did you Melanie hike that 26 miles for logo inspiration? Do they have any idea of the significance of what they wrote and how that was perceived? I was a member of the VTCC and have done many 25 mile ruck marches in my life, and someone who talks about that and has no basis for doing so is basically a marketer who doesn't care to understand what their company is selling. Have you ever served?? Do you understand the meaning of Ut Prosim and how our graduates have displayed that honer, integrity and valor in their daily lives?? How does your more inclusive logo represent that??

All the article says is that there was a need for a change in conversation, and we chose to take an historical, venerable symbol and change it in an attempt to change the conversation. I guess this is a forced change of conversation. You'll like it and you'll wear it proud!

Thanks Mr. Shinseki for taking away the Ranger Black Beret in order to instill Ranger esprit de corps in all soldiers across the United States Army. That will go down as one of the biggest jokes in US Army history. Most soldiers don't even care about it, and it has tarnished a great organization's history. VT is doing that same thing right now. While we're at it, let's issue maroon berets to all students with that ridiculous logo pinned onto a Hokie Stone flash. Hey, their not changing school colors, right?

What kills me the most is that I have to question myself- I can't even say I was deployed over the last year and didn't hear about this until now- because even overseas, I would still read TSL any time I could. I must have literally- no sh*t- been on Mars and not had internet service to have missed all of the awareness campaign articles and social media posts with sample logos that were being considered, that let real people provide feedback before these decisions were made without my comments or the response from others outside of their select group.

What I see from this is not good for VT, and the way it was presented, not explained thoroughly, and used symbols important to me in a fake manner, resembles something to me that is not honest on its face value.

This complaint ticket is already long enough. I encourage every one to reach out to these people before it really is too late and we are stuck with this ridiculous window sign that will be the beacon for all that is Virginia Tech for the next 10-15 years, until the next overpaid genius comes along trying to validate his or her relevance or job. I know I will.

Thanks for reading. Have a good weekend. Watch the game. And then call or write VT if you share any of the comments I've made above. If I am way out of line, or if I have offended anyone, I apologize in advance. Maybe I'm the one that will be forced to change to live in someone's else's world that is clearly not mine.

The clock is ticking as to how long until that logo replaces the current logo for sports. Or is the next item on VT's PC list of things to do the elimination of VT football all together?

At what point do we just say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH?
