I think Notre Dame will be quasi Independent up until the current


ACC-Notre Dame agreement expires. What will be interesting to see is who the Commissioner of the ACC at that time and whether enough members are fine with continuing the current arrangement. I would hope that the ACC would give Notre Dame an ultimatum at that time, but it may depend on who is commissioner.

The only other possible scenario I could see the ACC give Notre Dame an ultimatum is if the P5 schools (plus a few more) decide to form their own association/division level for all sports and structure it like any of the pro leagues in the US. Under that model I don't think there would be a place at the table for Independent schools because of how the media contracts are handled.
