Re: Did Meier and Tiernan fall into VT's lap or did it take huge effort

Ashley Meier wanted to play in the ACC. Her sister played at Pitt. She said that her father and her both fell in love with the campus and that Tech was her father's choice. She liked the people associated with the program. Meier ended up being the top player in the nation her senior year. Maybe we got lucky but having her and her father loving Tech's campus worked out for us.

As for Murielle Tiernan, she was also a 5 star recruit. IMO, her cystic fibrosis may have been a concern for some of the top programs? Her disease didn't stop Chugger from wanting her. Tiernan was limited to minutes because of it but when she played, she played like a 5 star player. I'd bet that she was one of the most inspirational players our soccer program (or any other Tech program) has ever had. It seemed like last season's team depended on her and Candace Cephers a little too much.

IMHO, Tech will never be able to win recruiting battles against most of the top 15 women's soccer programs. It seems like the program has slightly shifted recruiting more toward the Carolinas the past 3-4 years compared to the Northeast (especially New Jersey and Philadelphia area)). Our success will likely depend on how well we recruit NOVA. There's a lot of competition for players in that area.
