If UConn had decided to become a I-A Independent

in the late 70s/early 80s instead of remain in the Yankee, then do you think Memorial Stadium would still exist today instead of the multi-million dollar bball practice facility?

During my research on the history of UConn football, it appears (correct me if I am wrong) that when Memorial Stadium was built in 1953 that it was built with a capacity of 16,200. Given the initial attendance requirement to be eligible for DI-A was 30,000, I wonder if UConn (or the state) didn't have the financial resources to expand Memorial Stadium to satisfy the attendance requirement. Unfortunately, I can't find anything from that time period that gives me a clear picture of UConn's or the state's financial situation. Then again, I am not even sure who UConn's AD(s) was during that time period.
