There was a television version many years ago


I think John Ritter was in it which I thought was pretty terrific. There was one scene where the kid escapes on his bike and the movie kind of implied that bikes had a little magic of their own too (which allowed the kid to escape and accords well with my own memory/romance of being a kid w/a bike) Never read the books so don't really know the intended cosmology.
