It's all about customer service.

I think all of us understand why donation policy has changed. To compete at the national level and be a "player" requires money. We all know that. I mean Ohio State's athletic budget is probably twice that of VT.

However, I see where Saret is coming from re more transparency. As for me I would be very satisfied if when basketball reseating came, I wad told "We now have reduced seating below the portals because of the new seats. We also have University, ADA, and contractual obligations for seating below the portals for 350 seats. A lot of those 350 seats will be in prime locations. The total number of prime seats - thoae requiring a donation of at least $550 per seat - is X. We estimate that only Hokie Club members ranked from 1 to 800 will be able to get tickets in this area."

I would have gone into ticket selection with my eyes wide open both knowing that I would likely get tickets in the prime area but also knowing that my choice was likely going to be on the fringes. VT did in fact do something similar with football parking recently when they published an estimated Hokie Club ranking required for each lot.

Like RJ I also understand that this a business and we voluntarily participate in it. We don't have to play if we don't like the rules. But I think VT could do better at explaining things to us customers.

The great majority of us donate because we love VT and feel it is a privilege to help support VT athletes. So bottom line is it is all about making VT the best it can be. This discussion we are having is not to argue with anyone. It is to hopefully shed some light on an issue that I think is in the minds of many donors.

Sorry for the long post.
