I would venture to say that for some girls,

The burnout occurs earlier than when they actually quit. Softball players of this caliber have done nothing but play softball in the summer since they were probably 8 yrs. old. They have given up going swimming, taking vacations, doing fun things with their friends, etc. because of practice, travel tournaments, etc. I know I am generalizing, but from personal experience, my daughter made the same sacrifices just to play softball. She is a HS senior, and still likes the game, but came close to being burned out in HS. I look back and regret the number of tournaments she played in the summer and what she had to give up.
