Well I'm really just speculating about what could have happened.


Since by the way the rule for a catch was written that year, a catch has to be conclusive.

Meaning that if the official feels that the video is inconclusive that Coale caught the pass, he could conclusively state that it did not fit the definition of a catch and is therefore conclusively incomplete, thus the overturn.

That said, I still am not sold that he had full control of the ball when it hit the ground.
