P4 Conf Champs only is the only way they join a conf, the only debate is


when and if that will happen. If they go to P4 only, then you will lose donors that will insist you join a conference to have access to the National Championship and it will danged if you do and danged if you don't. So you might as well do the thing that will give you access to the National Championship.

I will keep saying that ND is not strong because they are independent, that now makes them weaker. However, they like the Dallas Cowboys and New York Yankees are a national draw for games. They need to recruit nationally to get the kids they want. Just like Stanford does in football and Duke does in basketball.

Thus if they were in a 4-5 member division, they could easily keep their national schedule. They would almost double their chances to make the national championship playoff and play all over the country during the regular season. That is where Notre Dame gets back to being Notre Dame, like they were when I was a kid and watched Lindsey Nelson every Sunday morning during the season.
