What they are referring to is what happens mostly at showcase type tournaments. Most every pitcher gets several innings regardless of score/situation/etc each game. Now if a college coach asks to see more then that changes. At least I know this is what happens with the team they are referring to.

I think in college you have to go with the hot hand. I know Tennessee employs a little of the "reliever" role and in my opinion there is merit to it. After going through the lineup 2-3 times good hitters are going to start figuring things out. I like the "closer" practice but most teams just keep their starter in as long as she can go.
