You bet there is - and new freestyle focus!


I agree. And with some insight into the room, I can say that there's a lot to be excited about, especially with the heightened freestyle credentials of the new coaches. There is IMHO more emphasis on freestyle now than ever before at Tech - with coaches Molinaro and Frayer in the room and coach/trainee Walz also focusing on freestyle.

Why does that matter when college success is based on folkstyle? Because freestyle skills absolutely help folkstyle performance. And from a recruiting standpoint, the landscape is changing (has changed?) quickly: the best recruits in the country (top 5 type) want to be training in a place where they can compete internationally too, either during or after college - which means freestyle. In a few years, teams might not be able to attract many of the top HS wrestlers without a strong freestyle RTC program.
