Regional Rivalries are important, even to Texas.

If the SEC has Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, and Arkansas, why would Texas run off to play Maryland or Virginia? Texas already complains about the Travel to West Virginia.

I think Texas will end up in the SEC holding its nose because the fans will scream if the Administration there runs off to play teams they don't care about when Texas A&M is playing everyone they care about.
