Actually they are hedging on both sides.


They put contract language into their agreement to play Michigan for a home and home that says they can get out of that agreement if they have to play more conference games in the ACC. They signed this after knowing that the current agreement was extended with the ACC.

I imagine that ND is putting this kind of language in all contracts to hedge against the uncertainty that exists over the course of 20 years. So this schedule announcement fulfills the requirement of the existing agreement between ND and the ACC. It doesn't rule out that things could change however.
