I slid off the road into a tree when I was 16. No property damage, other than my car. No injuries. No one else involved. No witnesses.

I didn't in a million years think I'd committed a crime. I was far more worried about the conversation with my dad about wrecking the car. I was about a mile away from a friends house, so I walked there to call my parents.

When I got back to my car, a cop was there and had looked up the license plates to get my name. He was planning to charge me with hit and run, leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving, and improper equipment. After a thorough scolding and him asking me at least ten times if I'd been drinking, he only charged me with reckless driving and improper equipment.

Judge reduced it even further and just sent me to traffic school to throw the whole thing out. But that cop was determined to charge me with anything he could think of.
