You are correct, Rutgers made a Final Four in the mid-1970s. I am thinking Rutgers may have lost to the undefeated Indiana team in 1976, though I could be wrong.

Rutgers fell apart because it never had good leadership in athletics. Rutgers might have gotten in the Big East if it had tried harder, but it did not and Seton Hall did.
