JoePa may have wanted that type of conference, but he would

have been overruled by the President who has the final say. Besides, the Big Ten isn't an "eat what you kill" conference and JoePa didn't seem to have any issue with Penn State joining the conference as a full member.

It is possible the Big East would have survived if it invited everyone as full members in 1994. However, if the conference wanted to expand again in the future, then it could have been with the same situation of trying to appease 2 camps (basketball vs. football). I am not sure those 2 camps could ever coexist. Likewise, the Big East may have ended up with a second battle (public vs. private) which can be powerful enough to cause a conference to split.
