You are correct that the non-Cali schools want to visit Cali

for recruiting purposes. The dilemma the Pac-12 may find itself in is that the Pac-12 currently has its "West Division." All the Pac-16 is looking for is 4 more schools to join Arizona, Arizona State, Utah, and Colorado in the "East Division." Would the Pac-16 want to have 1 or even 2 Cali schools in the "East Division?" Assuming the Pac-16 doesn't add any more Cali schools, then the East Divisions 2 rotating cross-division games could be set up so 1 game is against a Cali school and 1 game against a Great NW school.

A form of the zipper model isn't an option for the Pac-16 because will want to continue the 2 protected cross-division games for Cali, Stanford, UCLA, and USC (assuming they are in opposite divisions). The Pac-16 couldn't play 7 division games, allow the 4 Cali schools have their 2 protected cross-division games, and still have room for the 4 Cali schools to have any rotating cross-division games.
