If the AAC adds a FBS member, then perceptually is it saying
the conference is on par with C-USA, MAC, and Sun Belt? I have gotten the impression that the AAC (and even the MWC) believes it is superior to the 3 conferences referenced above. If the AAC wants to maintain that position and still add JMU, then JMU will first need to join 1 of the 3 conferences referenced above so it can be plucked by the AAC at a later date.
From JMU's perspective, I do think it would agree to join the AAC. However, I do think there may be some hesitation on JMU's part. The reason I say that is because JMU might have some concerns about playing the members in the West Division since the cost may not outweigh the benefits (recruiting of students from those states). Then again JMU may see this opportunity to evolve the school into a "national" university instead of a "regional" university (aka primarily upper East Coast).
