It's really not like bowl season. Most bowls are glorified exhibitions,
and half (or more) of the teams don't take them seriously. Players sitting out, constant sightseeing/vacation activities, etc. The NCAA tournament is win-or-go-home with every single team in it having a chance (in theory...) to win a national championship.
IMHO, the "best" league should be able to win games that matter the most, and pass the eye test in its losses. UVA, FSU, Miami got drubbed by 20+. Duke, FSU had what appear to be fairly 'bad' losses to much lower seeds. Wake in the first four couldn't get past a team that had a losing record in an "inferior" conference, and so on.
I agree that you shouldn't make the designation based on ONLY these results, but to just discount or discard them as some kind of outlier is equally silly.
