If the conferences expand, then I am not sure they expand

beyond 16. Once a conference expands beyond 16 members, then it could get to a point where each division acts as its own conference especially in sports like football. Not sure how receptive fans would be about rotating divisions. Most fans might view it in the same light as the promotion/relegation system in soccer (aka it is un-American).
