Coaching wrestling is physically intensive. Best wishes to both Coach KD an
And VT! Just a thought- I have not watched VT wrestling a lot but have followed the program from far. My one thought is that a coach is usually himself wrestling with team members every day.
I wrestled from about 9, through HS and in the Army, on base teams. I injured my knees, back, etc. - it happens. Coach is probably over 50 now- I would have to imagine that it's just tougher to coach as he gets older, and that might play a factor in his career decisions.
In any event, VT has been really lucky to have CKD! We had a club sport when I was there and not a lot of support. It is amazing now!!!
Funny, we helped out at CHS a looong time ago when I was at VT, before CKD was coach there, and Grundy was just ridiculous. They had huge boosters and $$$, and had owned SWVA wrestling for decades- their program was bigger than VT's back then. CKD is already the Beamer of wrestling. He put VT on the map.
