I'd like to see us look outside - I think footballfan makes a good point.

The top programs in the country are led by "celebrities" in the sport. Kids want to wrestle for guys like Cael Sanderson, Tom Brands and John Smith. No doubt Robie could run the program well but he couldn't recruit with the same impact.

So I'll throw out some names. How about Mark Perry? He was a great college wrestler (1x NCAA champion), his family gives him lots of "star power" and he's been an assistant at the D1 level for 5 or 6 years, including coaching IMar at Illinois. On the downside, he would be the third Iowa wrestler in a row to lead our program, which I don't think is good.

Another name is Eric Guerrero. He was a 3x NCAA champion and 2004 Olympian. He's been an assistant at Ok State under John Smith for 12 years. The negative is no local ties. He's from CA and wrestled and coached at Ok State.

A name I've already seen on this board is Coleman Scott- 1x NCAA champion at Ok State, Olympic bronze medalist and current UNC head coach. He's from PA, so he's closer to family than any of the Iowa guys. The negative is very little coaching experience. He jumped to the head guy at UNC very quickly without much experience as an assistant.

Lastly, if you want start power, how about Jordan Burroughs? 2x NCAA champion at Nebraska, Olympic champion and multiple time world champion. No coaching experience, but he could be the best American wrestler ever.
