I think they have to make duals count somehow and integrate it into team
scoring at NCAA's. That's the only way you guarantee people compete and send out their starters. It also can't be an unfair advantage setup to benefit the Big 10 only.
They are guaranteed to get 8 teams in this format every year and that's no way to run this. I'll be surprised if this event isn't dead in the water after the second rocky year in a row. It's not a good concept at all unless you are in the Big Ten other than getting an extra dual you may otherwise not have.
The one weekend tournament format was much better than this current setup, but you have to find a way to fit it into the schedule and the end of the year doesn't work. You'd almost have to move conference duals to the start of the season(followed by National Duals tournament of champions) and tournaments to the end(followed by conference and NCAA individual tournaments) to find a format that will work well.
Scheduling for the ACC would be easier than a conference the size of the Big Ten, but they can make it work with divisions "if they wanted to." Problem is the Big 10 isn't going to do anything unless it's an NCAA mandate.
