I have heard Flo and other podcasts and read on message boards how we need to dump this format of the National Duals because of numerous teams not participating and of course "unnamed teams" refusing to wrestle certain teams.

While its easy to point out the negatives of how this format didn't turnout to be everything it could/should have been, I still think there are multiple positives that shouldn't be ignored.

Our Hokies got 2 great match ups the last 2 years that wouldn't have otherwise happened. This year we have a top 10 match up in Cassell. I also like that there's a goal/reward to shoot for at the end of the year (this put extra emphasis on the NC State duals last 2 years). Additionally we get to see PSU vs OK State, Cornell vs Ohio State, and other ranked vs ranked match ups this weekend..

Its pretty clear that the coaches have too much control in our sport (especially the big 3), and I have just accepted they are not ever all going to agree on one ideal scenario.

Someone like Brands is always going to end up looking out for themselves regardless of the format. I mean heck, this week he deflected a conversation about duals and said the best thing for our sport would be for another Power 5 school to add wrestling. While that certainly would be great, its not something you can control. That's like telling your real estate agent, the best thing you can do to sell your house is for your neighbor to putt on an addition.

I know this dual format was only a 2 year deal and not sure what they will do next year, but I would hate to throw away a good concept just because its not ideal for everyone.
