A few things to consider...


First, I agree with you and that's probably what drove part of the change. You had people that were sharing tickets with others rather than those "others" being Hokie Club members.

However, the number of tickets one can buy in priority is capped -- I believe it's 6 at the level Va Tech mentioned. So it wasn't a big number.

That said, if a couple is buying 6 tickets when they only need 2 then you still have that problem.

But in my opinion, this is where the Hokie Club could have done something a little different. They could have offered to people like Va. Tech 2 tickets at the current "promise". And then any tickets you wanted above and beyond that fell into the new giving rules. Instead, they chose to alienate donors like Va.Tech and assume there's another Va.Tech right behind him to pick up the slack.

And they are probably right. As we've seen -- there are a lot of alumni coming out every year. Someone will take his place. But that doesn't mean it was the right thing to do.
