there are some valid points made on both sides of the debate. Having watched "realignments" at a variety of schools over the years I have yet to see a single one that works perfectly. The only thing I can recommend is get it in writing. It is not that people giving their word are necessarily dishonest or even trying to mislead. Often times it is simply a failure to consider how the landscape and rules of the game may shift and require a response. Also, new people come in and have different agendas and ideas. A written statement may not be any stronger legally than a spoken word depending upon the consideration exchanged, however, it is much harder to ignore/disregard. I think the Pioneers are the only ones at VT that have ever gotten anything in writing and it has worked out pretty well for them in reseating up until now.
