I think losing a research-oriented top tier AAU school hurt the conference

...not to mention the presence in the capital-area. If I had to bet I would say a strong majority of ACC presidents wish that Maryland had not left, regardless of the success of Louisville. UVa would certainly want them back because they actually have an outside shot at beating UM in football.
