That is correct, and yes it is screwy. But, so is the sacrifice fly.


Nobody really gives themselves up deliberately on that. They are trying to hit the ball. They just happened to hit a fly ball deep enough to get a runner home from third.

Baseball scoring is loaded with screwy things.

Getting an RBI for a bases loaded walk. RBI = runs BATTED in?

Starting pitcher has to go 5 innings to get a win? You're up 10-0 in the 4th, game is essentially over, rest your starter, and you have to give the "win" to the next reliever deemed most effective? Pfffftttt.

No RBI if you hit into a double play, yet you did get a run in.
