I might quibble with the way Lifer categorized one or two guys, but overall, that is an apt description of the likely thought process for the coaches. It's all about maximizing smart use of the talent in the room. The coaches want to make sure they get the maximum number of starting years out of the best talent in the room.
If they need a pinch start here or there due to a minor injury, start a C guy and maintain the redshirt on "B"s and especially "A"s.
I think our coaches may also be doing some extra math that not every team has to consider: specifically, could it be worth it to push one or two "A" guys early if there is a legit shot at the top of the podium. That could even mean having McFadden return to the lineup early in the New Year if he's healthy and ready to go rather than giving him the full redshirt year. He won't have Joey, Sal and Ty to stand on the podium with the following year.
