The only issue I see with ending the protected cross-division game

is there is the potential that UVA and VT could end up in opposite divisions. Personally, I have always thought they should be in opposite divisions and BC-Syracuse should be opposite so both divisions have equal access to states/regions within the ACC footprint. If UVA and VT end up in opposite divisions, then would you be okay not playing UVA for a couple years while VT completes its cross-division rotation? It is possible that the rivalry could continue annually as an OOC game. However, there is a possibility that at some point both teams could have a season where OOC games can't be moved/cancelled (without paying a severe penalty) to make room for the Commonwealth Cup OOC. So there is the possibility that the game may have to miss a year or two every so often. If VT fans aren't willing to give up playing their biggest rival annually, then I am not sure it is right to expect other fanbases to make the sacrifice especially when there are only 4 teams that may have an issue with the protected cross-division game.
