One of the advantages of the Big 12 dying a natural death is that it

provides political cover.

It is one thing to take a deliberate action to undermine the conference and leave someone out in the cold; another entirely to join a new entity following the demise of the old one.

A&M is the only SEC overlap for the Big 12. Iowa is the only overlap for the B1G. There are none in the PAC or ACC. Not sure how many political chips there are on the board if the Big 12 dissolves.

The most expeditious political play is to get Texas to walk from the LHN and save the conference.
