Last week, I noticed that the wrestling roster had quite a few cuts and the roster is down to 33. Most of the Freshman walk-ons and late recruits are gone, save for Helm, Amos, Latona, Derek Ciavarro and Mehrholz.

Additional, preliminary registrations for the Southeast (formally Hokie) Open freshman sophomore division are up:

125: Prata, Ryan More
133: Latona, Haskett
141: Degen, Brent Moore, Mehrholz, Awtry, Brendan Ryan
149: Lozier
157: Derek Ciavarro, Kayleb Forsythe
165: None
174: Hughes, Wilding, Leary
184: TJ Allen
197: Cook
285: Helm

A few notes on this:

- Awtry is a senior walk-on and has been on and off the roster during the last four years, usually at 125. He was recently removed from the roster last week. Awtry is from Bound Brook HS in NJ, the same HS as Mehki Lewis.

-Forsythe is a new name and has never been on Hokiesports

-You have to think more guys will be registered, especially in the open division

- Besides the starters, names noticeably absent: Dunn, LaPrade, Burns, Amos, Kyle Norstrem, Blees, Bergida, and Mike Ciavarro. Pretty sure some of this guys will wrestle in the open division and some might sit out due to injury.

-Obviously, this answers some of the weight questions: Degen & Moore at 141; and Hughes at 174. It shows some depth at 133, but since both Latona and Haskett are registered for the Fresh/Soph, there are still questions at 133.
