As a follow on, what should have happened was...


That the BE should have transitioned into a major "all sports" conference back in the early 90s. UCONN (and anyone else who wanted to play with the big boys) should have upgraded it's football program then, and started playing football in the BE. They they should have politely asked the non-football schools to split from the BE & form their own "small school" conference. Add Louisville & Cincy, and you have a solid football (and basketball) conference. That would have gone a long way towards keeping the Big East relevant, and possibly a P6 conference today.

Frankly, I thought the Big East was slightly better overall in football than the ACC. But the small basketball schools got their way, and eventually spit to form their own small basketball conference leaving the AAC in their rubble.
