Because the ACC was better than the Big East....

and the Big East was about to fall from Power football conference status. The same reason WVU left for the Big 12 and Rutgers went to the Big 10.

Plus I never said the Big East was "so good". Big East basketball may be better in the long run for UConn if they never attain Power 5 football status. I doubt UConn wants to lose $20 million a year running their football program. Right now, UConn should stay put in the AAC to see if any members leave or more eastern members (like UMass or Army) are added.
