Not Dictate, but ESPN must approve.


ESPN owns the television rights to UT Athletics in their entirety. Section 2 of the Longhorn Network Contract make that a certainty. Section 2a iv dictates that if Texas becomes independent or adds an additional sport to another conference, ESPN has right of first refusal. Section 2b dictates that if Texas joins a conference other than Big XII, ESPN owns 100% of Texas athletics television rights. Contract linked.

Translation, Texas will go nowhere not approved by ESPN. ESPN does not approve Big Ten or PAC 12. Take that to the bank unless either sell their networks to ESPN. Big Ten Network is owned by Fox, so not happening. PAC 12 network is a possibility, but highly unlikely. These should not continue to be posted as possibilities for Texas.
