Agreed... if there's a realignment, it would make the most sense to go N-S.

Personally, I think the best option is to create pods and rotate them every two years. This would allow each team to play every other ACC team at least twice every four years and still keep an 8 game conference schedule. The only issue there is, the southern pod would be a murderer's row gauntlet of Miami, Florida State, Georgia Tech and Clemson. Add to that not all annual rivalry game would be saved (UVA-UNC is one that comes straight to mind), but they would still play often enough (3 times every 5 years-ish, IIRC) that they'd likely hardly notice the difference.
