If they do that there won't be a conference at the end of the contract

The B12 is going the Big East route. If there is no extension of rights for UT and OU then at the end of the contract the best schools will leave and the conference becomes a shell of itself. UT etc know that they have value to the networks and won't be black listed for the money grab and will find homes in other places with little trouble. It is essentially a payment to the quality B12 schools for having to switch conferences. That will usher in the four super conferences era. The B12 will likely still have a seat at the table but the money will be much less.

I have long thought that the fifth conference could be a larger, national conference that allows good but not great programs the opportunity to grow and showcase talent while making better than G5 money but less than P4 money. Just a thought but what if there was a 20 team conference made up of the Fresno State's of the world? ECU, UCF, UC etc. They would have some really attractive games and some years some great teams, possibly playoff worthy once a decade. I'd watch those games.
