Re: It is hard to tell what anyone was planning. There are some missing parts.

Here's the most likely scenario. The ACC forced a RAYCOM clause into that already horrible original contract with ESPN back in 09 and 10. why the heck else would ESPN want to be forced to sell off content to one particular entity? They would have preferred to sell those games on the open market. But we all know why the SEC dumped Raycom like a sack of rocks and the ACC didn't. And while ACC negotiators were quite worried about the future of Raycom, they were not so worried about the future of an ACC Network. Raycom seems to have been more important.

THEN in 2012, FSU and others were seriously considering leaving this league due to its lackluster payouts. SO, ACC officials add two lackluster schools in order to renegotiate that deal AND they all of the sudden decide a network is important. Who knew? Right? Surely Raycom will play ball considering the ACC kept their doors open only two years earlier? Right? Surely it won't take long to work something out about regaining that content? Right?

Well, here we are today and Raycom is not wanting to easily hand over that required network content. ESPN is willing to put some stuff out there on digital, but they aren't wanting to put their names on a network that is lacking in so many midlevel live football and basketball games. Such games are the backbone of networks like the SEC and B1G have.

meanwhile, Raycom's negotiating how much they are able to shake down the ACC and ESPN for, while their employees have three years to pad their resumes.

Good times in the Raycom offices, but the offices in the Merryman Center are scrambling to keep up with schools from leagues that have quality leadership.
